I agree wholeheartedly with Denise. As next door neighbors to this site we have suffered 18+ months of disruption, noise, dust and repeated blocked access to our house by builders and developers who flout the rules and are not held to account enough. They start earlier than they are allowed, even on public holidays and weekends, they destroyed our fence with scant concern, they dropped things on our property from a height, they parked concrete pumpers beneath our windows for hours on end creating fumes inside our house and when I complained that I couldn’t get out of my garage to go to work at 6:30 in the evening the contractor actually threatened my life. And all that was just the start - I could go on and on. These impacts are not considered enough by council when they give permission for these developments. Much more stringent community protections need to be implemented. For example, starting at 7am is too early for the elderly and shift workers especially when contractors arrive at 6:30 and stand around talking laughing and yelling under bedroom windows. At that hour there is no one to call and no recourse. Of course the larger picture is even more dire, with congestion in our neighbourhood already unmanageable. Let it be noted that with the construction of these appartments, Staunton Lane is at capacity - there can be NO further development along this single lane access. The congestion will spill into Creswick Street and create havoc. PLEASE consider the whole picture of community impact in the real world even when things tally up on paper, because you may be committing neighbors to months and months of severe disruption which can and does have significant detrimental effect on people’s health and well being. Thankyou.

Well said, Denise and Carolyn,
Obviously we need development. The very nature of it in Stonnington is disturbing.
Look to Europe for sensible, energy efficient , more attractive options.
Malvern and Stonnington in general have suffered a steady erosion of character. These so called " high end" developments in High St, Watletree Rd, Malvern Rd etc produce buildings that fail to engage with community or the street.
They advertise "well known " architect and landscapers names. Often they are bland, gimmicky, ill conceived housing. They don't deliver on quality of space or green area.
Developers consistently amend plans for parking, garden areas etc. VCAT is on their side because the laws allow for this ghastly over development resulting in potentially dangerous traffic problems.
All levels of government allow it to continue in their chase for money. When will local government start to make a stand to curb the greedy developers?
We could design and build extraordinary spaces behind our historic facades. We could include gardens that enchant, inspire and improve our environment. Instead we destroy it at all costs.
Look at recent examples of 34 Armadale st, the over bearing development on the corner of Oorong and Malvern Rds which can be seen as a blott on the landscape from up to a 4 km radius.
This un-fettered, profit-led over development needs to be curbed. Our local and state governments must make a stand on our behalf.
