How about developers having to provide bikes and greenspaces (parks) etc if they want to develop and are going to reduce parking. Im all for reducing peoples reliance on cars but alternatives need to be added, or subsidised by developers. How about they are charged a percentage that goes towards improving public transport.

Originally, this was a planned master development, with 3 and 4 level buildings, with parking to be underneath the new structures.

Now - it appears that there are single story, inexpensively built (timber frames) buildings being erected.

HOW IS IT THAT THE DEVELOPER IS BUILDING SOMETHING THAT IS NOT WHAT WAS ORIGINALLY PROPOSED.

and why weren't the residents allowed to comment.

Simon, these are two different developments on totally different sites. The three and four storey developments are further up Penola and Stokes Streets (one directly next to my house). DHHS, council and residents reached compromises on both buildings and I expect construction will commence in the next four months or so.

The temporary accommodation at the end of Penola Street is just that - temporary. I imagine that DHHS liaised with council regarding the proposed land use, but it falls outside the planning scheme. Personally, I welcome the land being used: provision of temporary accommodation for homeless people seems perfectly appropriate given that it was once public housing. My neighbours and I are looking forward to welcoming our temporary neighbours and will continue to work towards more public housing and keeping the land in public hands for future generations.
