    Dear Councillor,
As a local resident of Bulli I do not think it is a good idea for the introduction of a KFC fast food restaurant. There are already numerous independent business who provide good quality food. A fast food restaurant would definitely impact existing businesses and it is not a very healthy take away food option for the general community.
Further the large Woolworths building has made the town centre look very commercial which has reduced the potential for Bulli town centre to be an attractive precinct with important heritage value. Kind Regards Pinky

I agree, we do not need more junk food outlets - our kids deserve better. There are lots of rubbish created, and despite mitigation provided, in reality, they always litter the surrounding areas.

Please be forward thinkings and stop this non-sense.

I am a Bulli resident and I oppose the building of a KFC franchise in Bulli. There are three reasons I do not want KFC in Bulli. Firstly, the main road through Bulli is already too busy and is often backed up right through the town, having a fast food franchise will only add to increased traffic.

Secondly, there are enough local takeaway and food shops in Bulli and Woonona, what will happen to these small establishments when they have to compete with KFC? There is already a McDonalds in Woonona and we do not need more fast food franchises.

Finally, the feel of Bulli will be altered again, as it was with the development of Woolworths. The modern and large Woolworths building stands out against the historic buildings in Bulli and another new building will only further ruin the historic feel of the Bulli town.

Please do not allow KFC in Bulli.

    Dear Council,
A KFC Bulli would be a travesty. Not only is the food unhealthy, the ethics of mass produced poultry is questionably unethical; the smell is awful and the clientele tend to drop lots of litter. It would increase traffic in an already overly congested area. Bulli is a heritage township that is full of character - we don't need a fast food outlet, nor further 'industrialisation'. Please do not allow KFC to ruin our home.

    Thank you.

    To Whom It May Concern,
I have no problem with this proposal. I know many people will point out that it's another fast food chain and it's unhealthy food, but at the end of the day your local supermarket sells plenty of junk food too. It's personal choice whether you purchase it or not. I know plenty of people in the northern suburbs that drive to Fairy Meadow KFC. At the end of the day, the demographics of these local suburbs are changing and they are growing. People want fast food that's convenient for them to get. It's not the best food, but the construction phase and the business will provide jobs. Isn't that more important, than people being in an archaic mindset that all development is bad?

No thanks to KFC Bulli! I am opposed due to many reasons:
We have enough good food options in the area . Do not need unhealthy.
    Need to promote healthy eating.
    Need to support local business
Traffic is already terrible with Woolworths.
Will only add to traffic congestion
    Will increase litter.
    Heritage needs to be maintained.
Please say no to KFC Bulli.

  7. Bulli born & bred commented

All for it - about time we were provided with more choice.
Why are people so against progress in the Northern suburbs? Every time a proposal comes up people complain about it, do they ever stop and think that it means jobs for our kids and less travel time for those residents who use these facilities and have to travel elsewhere to utilise them.

    Dear Planning Authority,
I'm wondering if you have considered the traffic impact that the new development will have on current situation that is occurring in the area? Is Memorial Drive going to be extended prior to this development occurring? Local residence are already feeling the weight of the traffic woes in the area.
Can Woolworths look at building a structure that is more beneficial for the community?

At the moment there are no long day daycares and the 3 local ones have a 3-4 year wait list. There is no land to build a new building in the area.

It would be great to see Woolworths contribute in a way that the Bulli community would like to see. Please make Woolworths rethink their proposal. There is no benefit for the local community to gain a fast food outlet or to see traffic conditions become even heavier.

  9. Concerned citizen commented

This proposal is absolutely disgusting. Local residents should not be bullied by Woolworths into introducing another external business. Support our local business', and provide more opportunities for growth in this way instead.
If you care at all about our community then you will reject this proposal. The last thing anyone needs is another unhealthy, cruelty ridden, waste of space that is KFC.

    Good evening,
Before you decide to build the KFC, speak to the residence of the area. I recently lived in Bulli for 2 months and the traffic congestion at Molloy St was ridiculous and very dangerous!
Also a fast food restaurant (as Woolworths have done), diminishes from the village feel of Bulli. Some places are more enjoyable as quiet country towns on the beach.

  11. Eileesha smith commented

I do NOT think that a KFC is necessary for Bulli, nor do I think it's a good idea.
    The reasons being;
    A. It is going to make the area more congested, and not only is that inconvenient for the residents of Bulli but is going to become increasingly unsafe. (Which doesn't seem like a worthy trade off to the possibility of specific foods)
    B. Wollongong has an area of a healthy Wollongong by 2025, something that doesn't seem conducive to this new development.
    C. It is evidentially not what the people of Bulli want, the comments in relation to this post, and also the closing down of the last big franchise in Bulli (namely Gloria jeans). People in Bulli don't want this form of food and also love going to their local friendly business (of which we have enough).

I understand people are concerned that we need to 'progress' and this just adds jobs. But I think this needs to be compared to the big harms I have mentioned above and also think that those things can be fulfilled by another local business that could be put there.

  12. Elizabeth Brien commented

This is a colourful, vibrant community which is already struggling with traffic and parking issues. This cannot possibly benefit the regular people of this community.

  13. Helen Clunas commented

As a heritage listed town, the council needs to defend the standards that will maintain this towns identity. 8m high buckets of chicken will not achieve this.

The nearly doubling of traffic every hour in residential streets is unacceptable. Traffic in Molloy and surrounding streets is already congested. Near misses occur everyday. Woolworths supply trucks have started parking in the street. To increase the volume is to invite accidents and congestion outside houses.

There is also no further need for fast food in this region. There are many other options within walking distance. Increased fast food outlets does not support the healthy living initiatives or the councils vision for this city

  14. Elizabeth commented

I fully support KFC coming to Bulli.
It will provide additional jobs to the area and provide a fast food alternative to Mc Donald's for the Northern Suburbs, it is welcome for those who do not wish to drive to KFC in Fairy Meadow for a fried chicken treat.
The placement at Molloy street will be discreet as it will be situated back from the highway.
I cannot see how this will impact traffic any worse than what is currently occurring.
I also fail to see what village atmosphere the residents are clinging to the idea of? Bulli is a highway suburb people do not stop to park and browse amongst shops in Thirroul. At present it looks decrepit with the bowling club closed and nearby hotel boarded up.
What other shops it would be stealing business from? Chickos in Fairy Meadow? Kings in Thirroul? There is no equivalent take away in Bulli to be concerned about.
The new shops including Woolies have brought welcome modernisation and refurbished the tired suburb.
Please do not stop progress with an addition that is welcomed by the majority of citizens on the basis of some people thinking their suburb is something it's not.
KFC will be a great addition to Bulli and very welcome in the Northern suburbs.
People are perfectly capable of making their own choices about the food they eat and how frequently.

    Dear Councilor,

As a local resident my family and I are against the development of KFC in Bulli. Bulli is a beautiful historical town and a big bucket selling fast food would not only stink the place up but increase the already congested streets and detract from the unique unspoiled character of the area.

A vast majority of the local population are people who escaped Sydney's commercialised fast paced rat race and building fast food outlets such as KFC only detracts from its beautiful unspoilt healthy lifestyle we aspire to.

  16. Kirsten Hitchins commented

    Dear Councillor,

As a local resident, I am firmly against the building of a KFC on the main street of Bulli. Not only is it an unnecessary addition to the town's shops, it promotes unhealthy eating habits to local children. While I agree local kids need jobs, instead, let's work towards supporting struggling small businesses in the area.

Our streets are congested enough already, please deny this application for a multi-national conglomerate to move into our town.
