Over the last few years many new families have moved into Swansea and built lovely homes or are renovating old homes. As a new resident (2½ years) in Swansea I consider it to be a safe and lovely place to live. Our son and grandchildren also live here.
I have noticed that Swansea is often forgotten by the Council. Our roads are terrible and very little beautifying work is done here compared to Spears Point.
The proposal to build a Boarding House at a prime location, overlooking the water, at the shopping centre, next to the local swimming pool, 100 metres from a school, is an abomination.
We strongly object to this boarding house being built here.

For some one who is going through the process of buying a first home in the area at the moment I find this concerning. We are drawn to the beautiful waterways, safety and peacefulness of this area. Upon hearing today that the council is heading this direction and planning on putting this type of housing in an area that I believe will be a prestige area of Lake Macquarie in the next 10 years or so, disappoints me greatly, It makes me reconsider leaving Sydney.
My advice is don't do it. You have thousands and thousands of young people in Sydney looking to this area for reasonable homes prices in a beautiful areas to start young families. The location allows us to live the coastal lifestyle whilst still allowing us all to commute to Sydney for work.
Spend time and money doing up the cafe, main strip area and then extra jobs will be created for the local community which I believe is far more useful and positive than cheap community housing.

    To whom it may concern

Lake Macquarie Council asked on their Facebook page “If you could make Lake Mac an even better place to live and play, where would you start?” My Answer: “I would start by not put a 3 story mixed use boarding house on the lakes edge in the heart of Swansea”.

I believe this 3 story boarding house development does not fit with the family friendly seaside village environment of Swansea. Among our residents we have young families and the elderly who came here because they feel this is a safe community.

I understand that there is a huge need for housing accommodation and I fully support aged and low income accommodation but only ground level or 2 story at the most.

We do not have an abundance of employment for the people who already live here so this development would only create social problems that come with unemployment.

Swansea is the gateway to lake Macquarie and Newcastle and should a welcoming showpiece to the lake yet it is the forgotten area, money should be spent to beautify and market this lovely place as a beautiful seaside village for people come here to holiday and live a beautiful life at the lake and great beaches surrounding us, in doing so create employment in the area.
