As a local real estate agent, I know the value cafes and their lifestyle can add to the area. I believe this cafe and outdoor setting would improve the streetscape and add some vital foot traffic to the area.

Having outdoor seating outside a cafe creates a wonderful relaxed atmosphere that ultimately enhances the ambiance of the cafe and its surrounding area.

Exactly Redfern needs, more attractive outdoor seating for local hospitality businesses. I regularly meet with local Residents for business appointments in Redfern and with the upcoming developments directly opposite this shop and more Residents coming to the area, it would be great to see this shop finally occupied with an attractive outdoor setting. Good one.

We support Council's initiative to allow outdoor seating in association to cafes, bars and restaurants. Sydney has incredible weather conditions and we should make the best of it.
I believe as residents or users of the public domain in the Inner City, we finally are taking advantage of the opportunities like most European cities have done for centuries.
    Thumbs up City of Sydney

I agree with the above comments, outdoor seating brings a community feel to the neighbourhood. People like to be seen out enjoying times with friends. The more of this the better. Redfern street has a little bit of seating but around the corner where this site is there is nothing to choose from. Would love to see more.

Being a local property developer in the Alexandria, Redfern, Newtown and Rosebery area, I am fully supportive of outdoor seating and tables for cafes & Restaurants. This ads so much vibrancy and a sense of well being not only for the residents but for people/families and all types of people that are out of the area that visit.

As per the successful examples around the World, especially Europe, all economic studies that are readily available online prove without a doubt that communities that embrace policies that endorse outdoor dining & wining, ad substantially economically to businesses not to mention the social cohesion of the community.

For these reasons mentioned above, I fully support this positive initiative of the applicant.

As another local agent servicing the area I would have to agree with the above comments. After a substantial period of vacancy, a good hospitality operator with a pleasant outdoor arrangement is exactly what this space and the local residents need. It's about time this space was brought to life to benefit community!

Reading the majority of comments above, most of the writers have a business interest in the area, so of course they approve of the application.

What about the pedestrian who wants to use the footpath for walking purposes, their area to walk within is reduced dramatically just by the tables & chairs. Then add the bicycles, dogs on leashes that are tied but can still roam past the allowed area and also prams/ strollers.

What I don't understand is why people want to sit outside and breath in the toxic fumes generated by vehicles and especially the trucks and B-doubles that travel down Regent Street in close proximity to this area. As well as the amount of building construction and dust particles floating in the air. I do understand, No Common Sense.

I'm tired of the pedestrians losing large chunks of footpath to allow businesses to line their pockets and the trendy customers enjoy themselves.

This particular location is somewhat under its potential. By adding a cafe with external seating it will generate some life to this spot. This potential rejuvenation is good for the community and shop proprietors.

Very pleased to support this DA. As a long term resident of Redfern/Alexandria, I welcome the prospect of this part of the neighbourhood being "open for cafe business". Those smart black tiles on this building have heralded a cafe or similar, for such a long time! Al fresco is the go, whether in Redfern or Ravello.

Outdoor seating provides a positive community atmosphere. Being able to sit on the sidewalk enjoying a coffee or a meal watching the world go by is a great way to enjoy local areas.

This planned development would be the perfect fit to this specific area. It would benefit the local residents, businesses & would be a plus for the general area.

I would like to object to the proposed outdoor seating area. This location is not suitable for a café with outdoor seating.

The proposed seating area has previously been designated as an access area for emergency vehicles when Cope Street was filled in and access from Regent Street was cut off, therefore it cant now be designated an area for a café.

There is no café at this location. There is a storage area with garage roller doors that was been converted without council approval. The garage roller doors have been replaced with windows, and the outside wall has been tiled, and large lights installed.

There will be a large noise impact to the residents above the proposed outdoor seating area which will effect the amenity of the residents.

There are many cafes in Redfern and many more suitable buildings that can be used as cafes that wont have the impact that this location will have.

The council should not be approving this development application because of the noise / social impact and the fact that the area already has a purpose and because it does not benefit the community. The only person that will benefit is the owner of the storage area.
