With regards to this development (and no doubt others going up on Sturgeon Street) I am concerned with the impact on safety and traffic.
I see school children, residents, park/gym/softball users, train goers and visitors to Ormiston College on weekends and koalas struggle to cross the increasingly busy Sturgeon Street at 'safety points' near the roundabouts. Not all travel in the direction of the underpass to use that, and the underpass is on occasions flooded or too dark or vandalised to use. I am surprised that this section of the road (between the traffic lights and roundabout at the dog park) is not zoned at least 50, and that is is not 40 during school hours (similar to main roads around other shire schools).
Residents of 92-94 Sturgeon Street and no doubt this new complex who wish to head into Cleveland (right) turn left out of their complex and are required to then U turn at the roundabout, this in itself is a very dangerous as oncoming traffic do not expect you to do this and more often that not do not stop - especially in peek times, and the ones that do, have traffic behind them slam their brakes on to avoid a collision.
My request is that council considers changing speed limits, places a sign warning traffic at the OC roundabout that oncoming traffic may be turning right, consider going ahead with the road that would run down the side of the railway or put in a zebra crossing near the park carpark; even have the police put a random speed camera on the street. Ideally, it would be good to discourage unnecessary traffic to travel down this street and use Finucane Road.
I have also noticed the number of B-double trucks rattle along here too.
I am not against the new construction per say, but do hope that it is well designed, 'green', attractive and in keeping with the other complexes in this street, so as not to lower the value for existing residents.
    Thank you for your consideration.
