5 storey building is too much. Just because the block is not wide, doesn’t mean the developer should be allowed to compensate by going too high. Take a one storey off.

Are any of the existing high rise, multi dwelling buildings in Altona fully tenanted? They seem constantly on sale. Are the proposed apartments across the road sold off? Tall, concrete buildings side by side - like lack lustre, soulless docklands and port melbourne - Altona is not that! The end of Pier Street, where the building is proposed, is already a dark, wind tunnel with ground floor commercial leases empty for years. Five stories is too much and not in keeping with the environmental focus and culture of Altona. Please do not approve

There aren’t enough car parking spaces on pier street as it it, the apartments that are already there constantly have laundry hanging over the balconies and look unkept. There’s no need for even more apartments.

This area is already overdeveloped and is not in keeping with the environment of Altona. There is very little parking in the area already and it is becoming almost impossible to shop in Pier Street as it is.
The multi storey properties are not needed in this area as we already have an oversupply in this pocket.
PLEASE DO NOT APPROVE THIS DEVELOPMENT!!!!!

I agree with all of the above comments re overdevelopment and the increasing parking issues caused by this. This development is unnecessary.

I do not approve of this multi story development. We already have parking issues down Pier street strip and this would further exacerbate congestion, not to mention it would be an eyesore for the area.

I am of the opinion that a 3-story dwelling maximum would suit the area better. The buildings that the new development is replacing are an eye sore, but you don't want it replaced by another.

A 5 storey dwelling on such a small site in this location is absolutely unnecessary. As mentioned by other commenters, the Northern end of Pier Street is already filled with 3 storey dwellings (I live in one) and they are constantly for sale or rent. There are two new apartment buildings on the opposite side of the road (eastern side) - one currently going up (which is the loudest building site I have ever witnessed) and the other has a builder appointed. The latter hasn't even sold half of the apartments, as displayed in their showroom on Pier Street. Furthermore, there are already over a dozen empty shop fronts on Pier Street, half a dozen of them north of the railway. I find it hard to believe the proposed site would add anything of substance to this end of Pier Street. I also fear the height of the dwelling and the size of the block would mean highly unpleasant living conditions for those who have southern facing balconies in the existing apartment block next door, above the IGA supermarket. This end of Pier Street, if this building is approved, will be a construction zone for the next 2 or more years with all the proposed developments. This will not encourage new tenants and buyers, nor customers for the few existing shops, let alone new ones. In summary, an apartment building as proposed is a pointless idea when so many already exist or are about to go up, without tenants, adding to the empty, dilapidated look of the northern end of Pier Street. The property owner/ developer has let a perfectly good house be broken into and gradually decline in quality for months, becoming an eyesore. This has added to the deterioration of the integrity of Pier Street - at the cost of the local community. Please do not accept this proposal. In the very least, modify it to a 3 storey - at maximum - with no shopfront, and don't allow them to cut down the many established trees on the existing property.

This building is not in keeping with the existing look, feel and design of the rest of pier street. There are frequently vacant shop fronts and apartment buildings that are empty in this exact space. Adding yet another apartment building with unused store front risks making the precinct dark and depressing like abandoned sections of Docklands. The shadowing will interfere with solar panels on other properties, and impact the heart and soul of Altona as a small community. By adding a high rise with not enough parking included, this development will also impact the accessibility of the entire Altona beach precinct, which relies on extra car spaces to support local shops, businesses and beach goers.
