These are meant to be owner occupied residential apartments. The constant erosion of this concept is most concerning.

Additionally there can be problems with these “visitors” - noise, people throwing things including cigarette butts from balconies (possible fire hazard when falling on plants in pots etc.) , people traipsing around with the wrong address - the list goes on.

Do not approve any more applications for this address.

With the current rental shortage inHobart I am concerned that more and more properties are being turned over to visitor accommodation. It is clear that the rental return for such properties is higher then a long term rental but the council should be concerned that all of Hobart will become a huge Airbnb thus eroding one of the elements that makes Hobart special - a vibrant small city with wonderful suburban communities.

I am in a continuing problem with my neighbour , who has built out his block with a B&B, and has decided to make the right of way his main access, including part of my very small block in Battery Point, essentially, outside my back door. Even though my mother bought the cottage in 1972, his view is ,that because he has been using it for nine years, it is his right to keep on using it. He has continually harassed and bullied me, and told lies. Eventually, I had the letter from the solicitor and the surveyor to go ahead. The fencer came yesterday and started work, and the wife came out and stopped him. I have another sleepless night, it is so stressful. This couple is a ‘nice’ middle class couple , and she has ‘community' in her job title. They have been making money from their B&B , and their ‘Car next Door’, taking up rare parking spaces. They have bullied and lied to me since 2019. This is what B&B’s do to a community, greed and self interest take over. This has cost me thousands of dollars, and is extremely stressful, I don’t know when it’s going to stop, so I can build a fence so I don’t have these neighbours walking past my back door, and their visitors and tenants, and don’t have to look at their three big garbage bins positioned outside my back door, because "they have nowhere else to put them." It’s all about a sense of entitlement, and not caring about anyone else. Obviously, on the scale of human problems there are worse ones, but it is horrible to have had this level of bullying happening since 2019. Battery Point , before these current days of greed and self interest, was a much nicer place to live.
