As a home owner living next door to a boarding house in Bondi Junction, I say absolutely NO to this type of DA and this request. 8 rooms??? The transient nature of this type of accommodation plays havoc with noise, excessive rubbish, disruption, inconsiderate selfish behaviours and impact every aspect of daily living and all amenity of ALL immediate neighbours. This accommodation is generally for visitors who stay for a "good time not a long time" With us, the owner continues to ignore our pleas for help. We have exhausted every legal avenue for help - with no success or resolve. Most likely the owner of this development, (as happened with us) will simply take their money and disregard neighbours and the community..... as is our ongoing experience.
Like this DA, we bought many years before the house next door became a boarding house. Dreadful.
Once it is approved - that's it!!!

I have already experienced the lack of investment in local community that this kind of development encourages. Tossed garbage and refuse on the street as transients move in and out. Drunken, noisy, at times frightening behaviour. People urinating and defecating behind my house and the worst of it, inebriated men mistaking my home with their own and trying to gain entry. For the sake of people who have already invested millions in their homes and neighbourhoods not to mention the numerous childcare organisations, say “no” to more boarding houses as this will be the third in a row benefiting the developer without any be if it for the community.

The last thing this neighbourhood needs is another eight room boarding house. The proposed application will be for the third boarding house in a row on Ebley St.
This exact part of Ebley St is already the dirtiest and worst kept part of Bondi Junction. Another boarding house with 8 more rooms will not benefit the local community in any way and will instead lead to more overflowing rubbish, more parking congestion in area with already limited parking and more noise from yelling drunks as they party in the back yard every weekend.
A third boarding house in a row is excessive and only benefits the applicant and causes ongoing problems for the local residents. For this reason I strongly oppose this application.

Hard to disagree that ‘this exact part of Ebley St is already one of the the dirtiest and worst kept parts of Bondi Junction.’ This heavily pedestrianized and utilized area needs dramatic improvement for the community, visitors and neighbourhood.

We strongly object to the proposed boarding house development at 51 Ebley St. Bondi Junction. Boarding houses offer temporary budget accommodation for residents who often have little or no regard for neighbours and their properties due to their temporary position in the community. We have already experienced constant partying and noise every weekend during the warmer months from the existing two boarding houses at 53 and 55 Ebley St. A third three-story boarding house at 51 Ebley St. will only exacerbate the problems experienced by local residents including more parking congestion, more rubbish spilling over into the street and excessive noise from temporary residents who are not invested in the local community.

The proposal fails to address the operation of the boarding house, in particular with respect to the nature of the accommodation and the lack of any process for resolving any disputes with the tenants. Furthermore the lack of any social support services to be provided to the residents is making existing residents nervous about this development.

There is no provision for onsite parking which will surely lead to even more parking congestion and competition for existing parking spaces. There is already limited parking in this area and this development will only make the situation worse.

The local area surrounding the proposed development has many elderly residents who due to their age are in a high-risk category in regard to COVID19. The constant influx of many temporary residents to the property endangers the health of the elderly residents of the area.

The proposed development is too large and does not fit into the character of the area. The scale of the development is excessive, unplanned, unneeded and motivated from private interest rather than meeting any community and social obligations.

Waverley Council needs to acknowledge the concerns of residents and not allow this development for a third boarding house to proceed, as a third boarding house in a row is excessive, unnecessary and will fundamentally change the character of the neighbourhood.

Strongly oppose to this development; this leads to ghetto-isation of Bondi Junction, cramming people on top of each other, which if anything this age of COVID-19 has shown how lethal this can be. On top of it, the intended purpose as a boarding house will introduce people who neither care for the local area not contribute much in its improvement.
