Lots of people have described the many problems that private car use and the parking of these cars creates, and many Waverley Council policies seek to limit this negative impact on our shared quality of life, especially as most cars are used only occasionally.
One of the more destructive effects is the alienation of valuable public land through imposition of concrete private driveways across footpaths and nature strips.
I'm astounded that some owners are prepared to demolish parts of their homes in order to secure off-street parking for their vehicles. It robs the street of the area of public parking used to access this parking space (and often robs of Council of public parking revenue), and damages the historic coherence of our local streetscapes.
Also, as it turns out in real-life, many of these hard-stands are so tight (even if they meet minimum requirements) that the cars that park there end up hanging out into footpaths and nature strips.
Also, could someone from Council explain whether "hardstand parking spaces" haver been re-named as "parking strips"? A quick Google search for the term reveals no results. If this is an application for something that doesn't exist, it probably can't be approved.
