I oppose this application in its entirety. Like many of the 20+ objections to date, I do not believe this development should proceed. Overdevelopment is already a contentious theme in Stonnington, and no longer should favor be given to developers to make a quick buck by slapping up as many shoeboxes with faux-plants to shroud. You only have to take a look at the recently built 100 or 107 Darling Road and their developer behaviours to demonstrate this point. Malvern East does not need more examples of this "foot in the door" development, that open the way for developers to accelerate additional builds, and erode the streetscape. Malvern Road has already become the poster child for overdevelopment. It is now littered with examples of unsightly highly concentrated apartments, obliterating what was once lovely family homes and a community feel.

Community in Malvern East is important. This type of build does nothing for community other than add investors/owners to an area that want low maintenance tiny boxes. "shoebox living" does not a good society make. People are more likely to self-isolate, and can't be found talking to their neighbour over the fence and sharing produce or advice. As COVID19 has exemplified, a significant portion of apartment dwellers suffered from mental health issues, and rather than work with their neighbours, instead resorted to adding designer pets to their cramped environment to curb their deficits. This over proportionate addition of people and animals does not aid the community. Malvern East want people that contribute to their area, not those that just go from a shoebox to the cafe with their headphones on and a $3000 anxiety pet.

I agree 100% with Benny Hill. Having lived and been involved with the community for 25 years I don't like what I am seeing with these shoe box developments and the strain on the infrastructure, being schools, kinda, traffic, transport and open spaces.

I also object to this proposed multi dwelling development at 11 & 13 Darling Road, Malvern East VIC 3145
I do not know why Stonnington has a " Planning Scheme / Policy Framework " which it does not adhere to.
Specifically relevant to the above application Clause VPP15 " Planning should ensure all land use and development appropriately responds to its surrounding landscape and character, valued built form and cultural context."
Stonnington has the second lowest amount of open space at 6.7% (20m2 per person) of any Victorian municipality and yet they continue to erode what space we have left for their own financial gains.
In comparison the average area set aside for open space across Metropolitan Melbourne is 17.9%.
Stonnington has commited in Item 21.06 of its Planning Scheme Landscape character - Key issues
"Acknowledging the City’s landscape quality and character as one of its most distinctive characteristics. Preventing further erosion of the existing landscape character and repairing the damage of the past"
Yet these are only empty words which are not put into practice. They are a law unto themselves with no accountability.
Even though Objections are raised, this is merely a wrought as they do not take these objections into considerations.
I vehemently object to this development and the further erosion of the existing landscape character and open space

How many stories is it? How many dwellings? You have to remember that Darling Rd connects to Koornang road which is becoming a vibrant strip due to the increased apartments

Agree with above comments. Development is taking away lovely character homes, and overpopulating our suburbs. Crime has gone up and community feel has gone down. We need to stop these tiny appartments now!

    I oppose this development.
    - overdevelopment of the 2 sites
    - it will be a poor quality development as with recent constructions on Darling Rd and Malvern rd.
    - will destroy the family neighbourhood
    - Malvern rd overdevelopments have destroyed character and they look like slums. East Malvern is in danger of going down that path, and worse, like the carnage of Carnegie
    - amenities like parking will be non existent. Odours will be strong.

I live on Darling Rd near student accomodation and can first hand tell you that the character of neighbourhood has been destroyed. They are dirty with rubbish everywhere. No one takes any responsibility. The smells are intensely strong. Not enough parking and therefore constantly parking in front of my, and neighbours, driveway for hours. Council does nothing to help.
Do not let this development go ahead, once it’s built it will be awful for residents. Council doesn’t have resources or power to help fix issues that will arise.
The developers will take their money and move on to next project, and leave neighbourhood destroyed.
The reason people choose East Malvern is because of its quiet family neighbourhood and beautiful older homes. Destroying the character of the neighbourhood will stop it being a desirable suburb.

Ridiculous having a development so close to a school crossing not to mention school traffic which is bad enough as it is, This suburb is being over developed and is losing the character we love it for.

Where are the details of this development all I can see is more than 10 units.
    How many more?
I think we should know how many levels and units and what parking will be provided.
Are they 1 2 or 3 bedroom and what outdoor space is there.
