Strewth... the council would have to be kidding to approve this, but they who knows? they would watch them being poisoned and take no action but they look healthy and a great contribution to the area...they were planted by people who contributed, and now we have people who don't care!

Whitehorse Council, please don’t approve the removal of 4 healthy trees.
In Blackburn, specifically in areas surrounding the Lake Sanctuary & Creeklands, we see higher rates of indigenous birds such as Tawny Frogmouths nesting, than within the parklands themselves.
It has never been more critical to protect trees in providing habitat for our local native wildlife.
Every day I see applications for a tree here, a tree there being cut down. It may not seem like a lot, but it quickly adds up to dozens of trees being felled (for developers) and their loss matters greatly to the animals which depend on that tree for habitat, and for migratory birds, as a stepping stone between locations to rest.
Please conserve our trees, and work with developers to include them in their sites if building here.

I appeal to the Whitehorse planners to carefully consider this application and question the reason for this request - removing this cluster of mature & healthy trees from this property appears unnecessary. If the reason is for an extension, renovation, driveway upgrade or even subdivision, all these can be done without removing the trees as they are not within 4 metres of the existing dwelling and are within the required setback from the street where you would normally expect vegetation. Any building modification at this address can be achieved without the removal of these four trees.
This site is located deep within a sensitive, significant landscape overlay which preserves the character of the neighbourhood and streetscape. Gardenia Street is affiliated with and directly connects to Furness Park at the southern end. The void this proposed removal would create in the local mature vegetation, existing tree canopy and wildlife corridor is significant and this destruction cannot be reversed nor effectively replaced. The impact the removal of these trees would have to the streetscape and residential amenity of Gardenia Street is also clear and does not comply with any interpretation of 'limited change' as is preferred by Whitehorse as one of the guidelines for approving permits in our municipality.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment and I encourage you to refuse this permit application.

With respect to those who have the onerous task of deciding the future tree scape of Blackburn and surrounds.
It appears there is a headlong rush into a scorched earth policy to accommodate the appetite of developers and others in redeveloping properties to the detriment of our beautiful footprint forged by our predecessors. Once again we lose valuable trees which don’t just spring up overnight and become a mature canopy tree, it takes years to achieve this. Please don’t lose what this area is ... unique and set apart from other jurisdictions that are not as fortunate as we are. Our trees are the pride of Blackburn.
Please consider this in your final decision and I implore you to save these trees in Gardenia Street.

This area around Furness Park is an important area for native birds and wildlife. Unnecessary destruction of mature trees will impact negatively on the area. As a resident and property owner in this verdant area, I request Whitehorse Council to please reject this application.

Whitehorse Council, please consider the on-going degradation of the vegetation overlay that the Blackburn area has been known for and upheld for so many generations. We are fast losing the reason most residents came to the area and the values of the climate we all contribute to. Now more than ever it is critical we preserve the value of the vegetation and the habitat it supports. Decreasing the natural vegetation in the area leads to a decrease in the overall harmony and liveability of the Blackburn area
