What is wrong with a casuarina tree? The needles stop weeds from growing underneath them and in the park, thus decreasing use of the ever present whipper snippers and leaf blowers in the park. Birds like them for a change of diet. They are natives.
Why don't the owners move to somewhere where there are no trees if they don't like trees?

I hope there is a very good reason to remove a full grown tree. They are irreplaceable in the scheme of things. There should be 6 trees planted elsewhere in its place. It doesn’t change the loss just mitigate it.

Checked out the casuarina tree today. It is close to the house. There is a dead tree on the eastern side of the house in the park. Maybe the removed casuarina could be compensated by getting council to get rid of the dead tree and planting another native near there.
BTW the path through Bronte gully is turning into a bit of a dusty wasteland isn't it?

I do agree with both of the above commentators. Bronte does need to take better care of its trees, starting with scrutiny of DAs involved with trees and perhaps insisting upon at least one arborist's report that supports any proposed action.
