61 Nicholson Parade Cronulla NSW 2230

On Thursday, 17/09/2020, a big trunk of gum tree falled down, nearly hitted people, blocked our gate. I have trouble to drive in and out of the gate, cause two big gum trees growing along both sides of the gate, leaves a tiny space to get in and out. Our neighbours are concerning about their safety because the trees are getting bigger and taller, may fall on their house , and also so much leaves get into their pool. That why for the safety of public and our family, we are asking for these two gum trees be removed. Thanks

Both trees are clearly well behind the gates so they are not blocking the driveway for entry or exit. The neighbors have their own huge eucalyptus in their own front yard so I can’t see why they’d be concerned about these ones - located at the front of a house when the pool is located at the back of the house. Council has just spent significant taxpayer funds planting 3000 trees this year. To cut down 2 large, healthy trees that provide habitat and reduce carbon in the atmosphere would be unfathomable.

Such beautiful healthy gum trees, these are the types or removals that leave such a terrible loss for the Eastern shire. These trees appear to cause no loss of amenity to the property, nor to the neighbour’s property. The loss of amenity would be felt by the local community.

Just want to clarify my clumsy wording in the last sentence of my previous comment: if the trees remain there appears to be no loss of amenity for the resident or neighbours. If they are removed the loss of amenity would be felt by the local community.

Surely Council needs to send out a trained arborist to assess the health of these trees and to decide whether or not there is a community safety issue here, and to consider whether any such safety issue can be sorted by actions other than complete removal of these trees. Council has a commitment to 'Greening the Shire' and so should be responsible for any decision that would result in the removal of mature trees, the replacement of which will take decades to become mature, providing much needed shade, habitat for birds and possums and general amenity for the community. A decision to remove these trees should be a well considered decision relying on expert knowledge, not just possible inconvenience to individuals.
