There is already an extreme shortage of parking at Newington between 1130 am and 230 pm on business days.

    This application should be refused.

  2. Con D commented

This is poor placement near the community sports area. There is reason of concern for water splash to effect children and adults who use the "Rage Cage" community sports area.
This point is also the busiest section of thoroughfare of the car park as they are some of the nearest to the shops. The owner really hasn't through this through commercially as it will effect customer experience. Better suited placement is near Ave of the americas.

This application needs to be declined. Local residents already struggle at times to park to shop. The limited parking available for the community is also impacted by local business during lunchtime hours and at weekends with people parking to visit Silverwater gaol or attend events at Olympic park. Hand car washes should be set up in areas where there is ample parking eg: rhodes shopping centre, Burwood Westfield etc.

  4. Susan Kehoe commented

This proposed car park in the small Newington Marketplace Car park is absolutely inappropriate! The car park is already overcrowed at many times of the weekend and weekdays and is far too small to have a car wash inserted. It would reduce the already inadequate number of parking bays and significantly increase congestion in traffic flow in the car park.
There is a cash wash at Rhodes shopping centre that appears to be under-utilised where many of the residents of Newington shop and this application should be rejected outright.

  5. Florry Lung commented

I cannot see why we need to lose more car space to fit it an car wash in Newington Marketplace. There is not enough car spaces for shoppers.

  6. Margaret Ball commented

The Newington car park adjacent to the shops is not a suitable place for a car wash as it is a well-used car park which operates at almost full capacity particularly at lunchtime.
If people need a car wash there is one an easy drive away opposite the Lidcombe Shopping Centre on Parramatta Road.

  7. Joseph De Araujo commented

There is no requirement for a car wash in this area, let alone using this particular car park. Most local residential strata provide a car wash bay and Newington residents enjoy use of recycled water at their premises.
If this development is approved I assume it will be because of revenue raising agendas.
I will personally avoid this area if there is a car wash business installed in the car park - they are an eye sore and do not raise the aesthetics of the area in any way.

  8. Anna Jacobi commented

A terrible idea. There is no need of a car wash in Newington. The car park is already too small with its current size. A huge NO to this!!

  9. Michelle M commented

This site is not suitable for a Car Wash. The car park is already routinely conjested with resident unable to find a parking spot. Local business workers and visitors to Silverwater jail also park here.
Losing 6 spaces might not seem a lot but would make a big difference to residents.
There are car washes all around us. Wentworth Point is often empty.

  10. Maria Del Duca commented

Car park too busy and we can’t afford to lose any spots. Will cause congestion. There are ample car washes in the area.

  11. Alison Muir commented

Parking is a signficant issue in Newington and this will make it worse.

There are car washes located in Lidcombe, Wentworth Point, Rhodes as well as local home-visit services work our community is well-serviced.

Having reduced parking spaces, the eyesore and noise of the car wash and the potential queues of cars waiting or parking overflow will be a nightmare.

Please do not proceed with this proposal.

  12. Alan commented

What is needed is more parking spaces rather than less parking.
Reducing the number of spaces by even 1 space would be an issue. There are times when I have given up trying to find a space to park and have gone to another suburb to shop.
There are 3 hand car wash facilities within a 4km radius of Newington already (Wentworth Point and 2 on Parramatta Rd located in Lidcombe and Auburn).
Newington residents also have access to recycled water and can wash cars on their own property or within car wash bays of their apartment complex.
    Another carwash is not required.
I recommend that this application is declined.

  13. Mark Andrews commented

The Newington Market Place carpark, is central to the greater Newington community.
The shopping centre, cafes, restaurants, chemist, dentice and medical centre are all accessed via parking here.
There is also the community centre and library.
    To remove available parking for a commercial enterprise, does not make sense;
    - when parking spots are scarce.
    - when the communities vehcile population is increasing with Wentworth Point & Sydney Olympic residents all coming to Newington for the above referenced facilities.
I would request the council decline the application- as it is not in the greater interest of the community.

Also on the grounds that land designated for parking should not be converted to commercial activity, unless the parking is surplus to the daily peak requirements.

  14. RJ commented

There is no need for a car wash in the area as there are several around (Rhodes, Lidcombe) besides residents can use the car wash bays in apartments and recycled water to wash cars in their driveways. The market place car park is crowded on weekdays. I hope the council listens to the voice of the residents.

  15. Michelle commented

This car wash DA should be refused. Parking at Newington Market place is already an issue particularly due to many surrounding businesses. Removing 6 car spaces will be to the detriment of local business and shoppers.
The placement of the car wash is also a poor choice and should not be permitted to take a spaces that are closest to the shops and community centre.

  16. Ali Ferry commented

This is a much needed service in the area. Many people do not wash their own cars these days. In fact they don't do much for themselves these days. They don't clean their own homes or even make their own cups of coffee. They don't even shop for themselves. This service will be utilised by local businesses and community. Rhodes, Lidcombe and other locations whilst close are not easy to get to from Newington due to the suburb being surrouneded by major roads with traffic congestion. It takes 30 minutes usually to go a short distance. This service is in bounds of the suburb. 6 carpaces is not going to make a difference. Thats hogwash. I've lived here 20 years and never had a problem with parking. This business will create much needed jobs. You should approve this business.

  17. John Phillips commented

With respect Ali Ferry, you obviously haven't gone to Newington between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm any week day to see for yourself the parking problems?

Maybe you are one of those self described people who get others to do your shopping?

Parramatta Council should NOT approve this business until more parking is made available at Newington. Parking is already at a premium.

  18. Joanne Cheng commented

I would prefer to keep the extra 6 car spaces in Newington, and travel 5min to Wentworth Point for a car wash when needed. It is already very congested and difficult to find parking in Newington, and these car spaces would be best utilised by residents and local businesses

  19. Gary Singh commented

Building a car wash in already constrained facility is not a good outcome for the community it is being built for. There are plenty of car wash facilities near Newington and majority of Newington residential apartments have car wash facilities built within the apartment car parking. This application should not be considered favourably keeping in mind the interest of the residents and poor business feasibility planning.
