This "renovation" of a Federation house irrevocably demolishes the unique character and heritage of the house.
Development involves demolishment of most of the house except the facade and part of the front room and the modern second story is extremely dominant and visible from the street. The plan clearly erodes the character of the house and the streetscape particularly from the public domain.
The builder noted that a number of other homes had been "transformed" into "modern" buildings.
This is no excuse to lose yet another traditional dwelling in yet another unsympathetic renovation. Too many of these buildings are being lost.
I cannot say much more except it is a great shame that Council allows these types of renovations which are basically knock down rebuilds with a small amount of façade retained.
