Re Application for the removal of a total of FIVE protected trees; one at 3 Harding St. Surrey Hills and four more protected trees next door at 5 Harding St. Surrey Hills in the Significant Landscape Overlay Schedule 9.
As a resident of Surrey Hills my family chose to live in this area because like most residents, we love and value the tree canopy.
Unless each of these trees have been separately condemned and substantiated by a qualified Arborist with an official Report submitted stating the health status/reason/s for each tree‘a for removal i.e. they are dead or unsafe, they should be not be considered for removal.
In these days with the scientific knowledge and understanding of what is required to help slow and reverse the effects of Climate Change, I’m astounded Whitehorse Council will even consider this request. These applications run against everything Whitehorse Council is promoting to the Community by its own department of Sustainability.
Come on residents, voice your disapproval to your Councillor. We need every elected Councillor to stand up against every application for tree removal unless specifically stated they are unsafe to remain.

How can 4 x Protected trees in a Significant Garden overlay be even considered for removal? What’s more it’s 1 x tree plus 4 x trees on adjoining blocks. Obviously the developer of this project is planning another huge bulk, limited garden, street dominant build. Enough of these outrageous projects dumped into our heritage streets.

Do we know the reason for the requests to remove the trees? I’m not aware that a development is planned for either of the properties, let alone both together. It would seem a sensible way to approach the issue would be to talk to the property owners to find out their reasons, & whether they plan to replace the trees. I also am concerned about the removal of trees, but let’s find out the details first.
