I would like to applaud Adam Zweck's comments on the removal of significant street trees. Trees improve the air composition on city streets and take years to achieve their greatest effects on atmosphere and shade cover. Big trees characterise their neighbourhoods and act as pointers to the local water balance. It should be a legal requirement for the local authority to place a sign on each big tree they are planning to remove, well in advance of execution date, so that local residents can be informed and have enough notice to challenge the removal. At present the removal of a street tree is too often a fait accompli, a literal coup.
