The proposed house "extension" is massive, far larger than any other house in this street and could never be mistaken for a pre1946 Queenslander house. The wall of slats added to the front is extremely ugly and in no way ties in with the character of other houses in this street of predominantly pre1946 Queenslander houses. This house has a small verandah which does not appear to be visible in the proposed renovation. Windows also appear to be small and not in keeping with the existing street frontage. Verry Street is a unique street in Coorparoo, possibly even Brisbane, in that eleven of its twelve houses are Queenslanders. Whilst there are some large houses with lovely gardens, a couple are small and extremely modest. Three houses on the top of the hill date to 1924/25 so are almost 100 years old. They are kept in pristine condition by the owners who take great pride in them. The proposed extension is extremely large and overpowering and appears to take up most of the block. Not one house in this street has a garage on the front fenceline and the footpath is concrete, contradicting the advice given on the plans. A Queenslander house is always of a certain style which this house does not appear to be. It this is approved it will ruin the ambience, appearance and originality of the street. I do not approve of the proposed plans at all. Perhaps the owner needs better advice and a sympathetic architect, not one who just adheres to the current trend.

Given the character of this street is predominantly 'old Queenslander', I believe there should be a commitment to maintain this style at 19 Verry St. The slats proposed for the front of the house detract significantly from this style, likewise the design of the roller door of the garage. I also think it preferable that the garage/carport be set back from the front boundary. Ideally the concertina windows proposed for the front verandah should be sympathetic to this theme e.g. casement style or similar.
The roofline on the extension is very modern and its appearance looks like an add on. Perhaps this could be designed to be more compatible with the existing house.

The houses on this side of the street have a unique conformity, capturing a specific time in Brisbane's development and if this proposal goes ahead that unique snapshot will be lost. The garage at the front of the house, extensive slat work and moving the house to the boundary of the property on the upper side will destroy the character of this home and so impact upon the other homes on this side of our street. This unique heritage will be lost.

This appears to be another disappointment for preserving the character of Coorparoo
