I urge Council planners to examine very closely these arguments for avoiding the affordable housing contribution.
Of course, developers don't want to pay these costs because they come directly off their profits, but at heart, planning controls are about social outcomes, and the loser will be the diversity of the Bondi Beach community.
The challenges of dealing with rapid gentrification are well recognized, but Waverley has solid policies in place that deserve to be upheld, and in this instance, the implicit threat of legal challenges needs to be resisted.

Evading responsibilities to the community good - in this case through a contribution to affordable housing - is standard ratbag developer behaviour. I urge Council to put all the resources it can into locating the evidence (ie that apartments in this building were being rented below market rates in 2000) that will allow this modification to be rejected. Or to find some other basis on which to reject it.
