I am a local resident and wish to object to the proposed liquor licence at 251 High St Prahran.

Let me start by saying that I enjoy a drink and do not have any problem with people drinking, but there is no need for another business selling alcohol at this site.

There are so many places that already exist nearby to purchase alcohol.

IGA, just up the road in Armadale is open until 11pm Sun-Thur and 12 am Fri & Sat.
Armadale Cellars, not far away is open until 8 pm, 6 nights per week.
Toorak Cellars, nearby is open until 9pm, 3 nights a week and 11 pm the other 4 nights.
Both Liquorland in Chapel St and Vintage Cellars in Toorak are only 2km away and BWS in Malvern Central is 2.2 km

It is unnecessary and undesirable for the local community for alcohol to be available at such a conspicuous and accessible site. People already have a variety of options if they want to purchase alcohol. The proposed site and operating hours would encourage spontaneous purchases of alcohol with consequences to the local community.

Another alcohol outlet will only exacerbate the problems associated with alcohol. Alcohol abuse is already a community problem – we don’t need to add to it. Currently it is not uncommon to find bottles dumped along Denbigh Rd and surrounding streets from people walking home with a ‘traveller’. Litter, vandalism and graffiti will all increase with the addition of alcohol to the mix.

We do not need another place to buy alcohol at this location.

I believe the granting of this licence would detract from the amenity of the local area. It would encourage spontaneous purchases of alcohol which would only increase the incidence of graffiti and vandalism already present in the area.
I believe the availability of liquor at this site would detract from the harmony of the environment., by increasing the occurrence of litter. There would be litter associated with bottles dumped in surrounding streets from people walking home with a ‘traveller’.

For the above reasons I think the granting of a licence would be detrimental to the amenity of the area.
