While this is apparently a small change to the planned proposed development at 233 Rowntree Street it makes the future of the magnificent Callistemon at the rear of the property even more precarious. In our opinion this tree must be preserved with minimal pruning of its roots and branches. We speak for the lorikeets in particular but also the wattlebirds and other birds as well as bees that feed off it. We also appreciate its beauty, the coolness it provides and the attraction it has for the birds and bees.
The plans provided clearly do not show the real size, shape and position of the Callistemon and how much of its roots and branches will need to be removed and what the tree's chance of survival is. We strongly suggest that this information, together with an independent arborist's report, should be provided before a decision on the proposed changes is made.

There is a steady line of applications requesting the removal of trees and this is greatly affecting the birds in the area. I oppose this application on the basis it once again an application that will have a negative impact on the birdlife and bees in the area.
